11 p.m. So today was a slow day where we just took our time to see a few last things. Walked to Santa Croce, where they are setting up a big stage for the taping of MTV Italy's TRL tomorrow outside the church. Yuck -- glad we'll be gone, but it was fun watching them set up. Then we toured the inside of the church. Unfortunately, the main alter [sic] is being completely refurbished but there is a SHITLOAD of [other] stuff inside to see: Galileo's grave, Michelangelo's grave, Machiavelli's grave, monuments to Leonardo & Dante, Giotto works ... sheesh. Gorgeous garden too. Oh and Brunelleschi's dome. Grabbed a sandwich at a cafe on the piazza and walked to the river and then wandered alongside it and then back north past the Medici Chapel & San Lorenzo. Stopped for gelato and then came back to the hotel & crapped out for a couple of hours. By 6:45 -- far too early for dinner, but oh well. We had a nice meal at a place one block west of the hotel. By the time we finished it was starting to get busier. I had tiramisu, absolutely orgasmic. Then back over to the hotel and up to the bar where we had the place to ourselves (w/ the bartender) for at least an hour & a half before others showed up, including one guy from Singapore who was a dick, loud-mouth, rude & patronizing to everyone. We left, came back here to the room and started collecting belongings so we can pack up & leave tomorrow. BOO! Just texted Sparky goodnight; not sure we'll be able to text him in his a.m. if we're on a train back to Rome. We'll have to play it by ear. More tomorrow either on the train or from the airport Hilton in Rome.
